Took the ol´bicycle out west of Copenhagen.

Rode with the sun and wind up my back and got six hours worth of light, space, and fresh air. When I'd had enough I just jumped on an S-train and returned home without the agony of bicycling all the way back with my nose stuck into the freezing cold wind.

Yesterday I was elected chairman of the place I work on Mondays (we've been looking for a chairman for a month, nobody wanted the job...) Ultimately I thought to myself:

I can now tell myself to work harder and stop complaining. I can now sack myself for writing bad things about the place on this blog. I can sack others for writing a blog. I can hire myself to teach others how to write a blog and then sack them for doing that. I will start out putting up posters with my picture. Everywhere. Don't know why, it just...seems...right.

Went and saw KRAFTWERK yesterday here in Copenhagen. Probably one of the best concerts I've ever seen! I´ve never been much "into" Krafwerk and have none of their records, but I realised I actually knew most of the songs they played, simply because they have been hit songs on the radio.

A remarkable achievement for a band that has drawn much of it's inspiration from the European avantgarde, but mixing it of course with: Der funky beat.

There I was sitting comfortably watching their fantastic visuals while the four members (the present incarnation of K consists of two old and two new members) stood motionless behind identical consoles looking into indentical laptops. At the end of the concert the true highlight of the event was finally displayed: The robots - moving their mechanical arms and bodies in unison while the audience applauded. A very futuristic moment: An audience of humans cheering four robot stars.

And it made sense too.

-No more excuses for spending all your time in front of the screen ("what else would you want me to do? It’s f..ing freezing cold outside!")

-No more days gently wrapped in soothing grey.



Instead I’ll get:



-Glaring surfaces and bright sunlight hurting my sensitive eyes.

-Armadas of beer and cannabis-crazed Danes going nuts in the streets over the arrival of warmth and light - It's a Nordic thing...

-Gallons of gooey sweat spurting from the pores of my skin because of the extra pounds overheating my body.

-An utterly confusing collection of strange holidays which only mean one thing to the self-employed: No income on that day...



Well, it's not all that bad.

It's always the same scene: The teacher enlightens the young students who quietly sit at their desks mesmerized by the great tutor's charisma and vast knowledge (he's usually played by Robin Williams or maybe - in older films - Spencer Tracy)

And what a mighty BIG knowledge that is... and not only what's found in books! Usually this titan of a man is also a war veteran, a top athlete, a fully trained nurse and soother-of-souls, and more of a ladies man than Errol Flynn and Sean Connery in a red sports car with a trunk full of mink overcoats. No wonder the youth listen to him! He is a regular fountain of facts, endlessly spurting out insightfulness garnished with witty anecdotes and shrewd observations.

Dietrich von Saucken.


Few officers in the German Wehrmacht personified the aristocratic Prussian militarist as Von Saucken. The monocle and riding-boots wearing general came from a long lineage of Prussian nobility dating back to the fourteenth century. Reportedly he was one of the few high ranking members of the Wehrmacht who was neither intimidated by Hitler's insane ravings nor hypnotized by his charisma when he - like many others- was summoned to the fuehrer's headquarters to explain why he had made a clever tactical withdrawal intead of ordering his troops to stay put and be massacred by vastly superior Russian forces.

Born 1892 in East Prussia as the son of a judge von Saucken entered the Imperial Army in 1910 and served in the cavalry regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm I" as a lieutenant. During WW I he was wounded seven times and finished the war with the rank of captain. Between the wars he continued to serve with the Reichwehr in various cavalry detachments and on the outbreak of WWII he was commander of Reiter (horsemen's) -regiment 8 fighting in Poland and France. In the fall of 1940 von Saucken switched from horseback to the modern world of motorised troops and became commander of the 4'th Schuetzen brigade (motorised riflemen) After receiving a severe headwound in the early part of the Russian campaign von Saucken returned to active duty in December 1941 as the commander of the 4'th Panzer Division. Von Saucken continued his duties on the Eastern front orchestrating many brilliant counter attacks to relieve trapped or encircled German troops. By the end of 1944 he was in command of the newly established Grossdeutchland Panzerkorps made up from some of the best troops in the entire German Army. In early 1945 von Saucken had a serious disagreement with the Chief of Staff general Halder over the futility of continuing the war and he was moved to the reserve. In march 1945 he was however given command of the Army fighting in the encircled region of East Prussia where he skilfully organized defensive actions that enabled thousands of civilians and troops to escape by boat from the Russian onslaught. When the end was approaching the German High command send both an airplane and a ship to rescue von Saucken but he refused to leave and stayed with his troops until the final surrender on Hela peninsula May 8'th 1945. For these actions von Saucken was awarded the diamonds to the Knights Cross (only 27 of these were awarded during the war)

After his capture by the Russians, von Saucken refused to sign a false letter and was subsequently sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment and sent to a Siberian work camp. Here he was tortured and spent twelve months in solitary confinement. He returned to Germany in 1955 as a marked man and settled in Munich where he took up amateur painting. He passed away in 1980.

I've realised one of the reasons why many of the differences between the sexes - Clothing, upbringing, occupation, etc - Have been rooted out during the last thirty years in The Danish Welfare State.

Officially it is done for the benefit of both sexes - to combat old stereotypes and role models that keep us from being ourselves; from being free. In fact- I think - it is all done to ensure that both sexes can be part of the work force at the same time and place. If we all dress the same, look the same, talk about the same things and think the same we have no problem working side by side. If a man or woman was a rare and completely different experience in either one's world they would attract too much attention - and slow down work!

It's much better to have uniform boredom. So we can work.
